The ordinary people could hardly imagine the crossings without traffic lights, after getting accustomed to the rule of “stopping in red light and moving in green light.” However, recently, many people were astounded by the courageous trial at the crossing of a busy road in Shanghai. After the intermittent cancel of traffic lights, the passers-by and the vehicles give way to each other cautiously. The traffic was improved a lot rather than become worse. This is not the only case: many countries in Europe began to stop the traffic lights on the streets. Nevertheless, does this mean that China will put an end to the adoption of traffic light forever? Is it daydreaming to keep the traffic in order without the numerous traffic lights all over China?
To be honest, I don’t like traffic lights. I have a carsick and when the car stops suddenly I will feel even sicker. So the fewer traffic lights the better. But it is not easy to keep the traffic in order without the traffic lights. After getting accustomed to the rule of “stopping in the red lights and moving in the green lights”, people can hardly accept the fact that they must look both sides and take care before the crossing. So we must decrease the traffic lights step by step and at the same time enact effective laws to ensure the safety of the passers-by. Traffic lights can be kept in dangerous areas to warn people to be more careful. I hope there is no traffic light in our country one day.
First of all, traffic lights are part of traffic rules which makes people to comply with in order to avoid accidents. Should all the traffic lights be canceled, the accidents would be much more likely to happen especially at night. Secondly, the example given is an exception that only happens in an extremely busy road to the people with little sense of traffic rules. On the other hand, unlike the Europeans Chinese people are not so highly disciplined that they can hardly keep the traffic in order and there will be more traffic jams without traffic lights. Last but not least, as a result that China’s legal system is not yet complete; it is more difficult to handle a traffic accident case when the traffic lights are no longer there.
Therefore, all the people have the right to pass through the crossing as soon as possible, but when carrying out our rights, we can’t sacrifice the rights of others. Courageously speaking, to cancel the traffic light is definitely a new symbol of human civilization and time transformation. But one thing is concerned, who should has the priority? If all the person waiting to through the crossing has emergency, who will be the first to pass? Accidents and quarrels might be happen frequently especially in the rush hour. It probably works in a couple of foreign countries, but we should take into account that china is a great country with large population; the policy is hardly to carry out in a short time.
